The Coronavirus is a respiratory illness that spreads from person to person. It started in a food market in Wuhan, China in December 2019. The virus spread worldwide and has killed more than 4,000 people in the U.S. Also, it’s forced many people to work or go to school at home.

“I can’t go out and I can’t go to school,” Jennyfer Cruz said. “With me not being able to go to school, I can’t fully learn or understand my subjects.”

The shelter-in-place mandate has greatly affected students. Everyone is suffering. It’s not just affecting adults, jobs, or the stock market — it’s affecting kids too.

“This has been a hard time for students and teachers, ” journalism teacher Caitlin Drott said. “But I know SMS teachers are working hard to keep kids on track.”
